NEW MARKET BEGINS LIVE CITATIONS FOR SCHOOL zone speed SAFETY CAMERA PROGRAM AS 30-DAY WARNING PERIOD ENDS

Town to Issue Tickets as Warning Period Ends

NEW MARKET, MD. (October 11, 2022) – Motorists have had 30 days to slow down at a New Market school zone and receive only a warning. As of October 11, the Town will issue violations to the registered owner of any vehicle that is photographed passing through the school zone faster than the posted speed limit. A speeding violation will carry a fine of $40 for offenders. Violations are mailed to the registered owner of the vehicle after review and approval of the data and recorded images.

“We have urged drivers to slow down in school zones and be aware of their speeds during this warning period. Hopefully now people are thinking twice before speeding through a school zone,” said Thomas Dommel, Program Administrator. “We are confident our program will keep our children safe as they head to and from school.”

The Town of New Market utilizes state-of-the-art digital cameras and proven violation detection technology to help decrease potential violations. The program helps ensure that drivers pay more attention and obey traffic control devices. Signs are in place to alert drivers that the school zone is an automated enforcement area. The cameras will only be operational Monday-Friday from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm.

  • 0 Block to 100 Block of Main Street, New Market, MD
